Concussions caused by contact sports are an invisible epidemic affecting an estimated one in five student athletes. The Northern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, in collaboration with PlaySafe, UCSF Medical School’s outreach program, is conducting this crowdfunding campaign to assess athletic concussion injuries for San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) students. These high school athletes will receive state-of-the-art analysis from UCSF’s Credentialed ImPACT Consultants.
Concussions caused by contact sports are an invisible epidemic affecting an estimated one in five student-athletes. Help SFUSD students stay ahead of concussions by enabling the UCSF Sports Medicine PlaySafe Outreach Program to provide baseline concussion testing to aid in the assessment and proper treatment of concussion injuries. Since 2017, contributions to the Concussion Outreach Initiative have allowed UCSF to provide better care to over 1500 athletes and counting. You don’t have to be an athlete to be our champion, please donate to help our students stay ahead of concussions.
You can’t spot a concussion on an X-Ray or CAT scan, but you can see how this head injury plays out. Symptoms can afflict cognition, mobility, emotions, behavior and sleep patterns. Subsequent concussions to vulnerable unhealed head injuries can lead to permanent brain damage, and even death.
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the most-widely used and scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system in determining safe-return-to-play decisions. Developed by pioneering clinical experts, ImPACT provides trained clinicians with neurocognitive assessment tools and services that have been medically accepted as leading-edge best practices.
