The nomination process is dependent on several qualifying factors
- The NCJSHOF Executive Committee pursues information on existing websites, publications and media outlets to identify Jews who in their capacity as athletes, coaches or community contributors have left a profound and lasting impact on the lives of young athletes in the community by embodying the highest standards of sportsmanship, character, dedication and integrity.
- These individuals have performed on championship teams or have been identified and honored with awards which certify them as worthy of recognition.
- Nominees may be living or deceased individuals whose careers have been involved primarily in Northern California.
- Non-athletic contributors are also considered based on their significant financial contributions to athletic facilities, their viable participation in the improvement of athletic programs or significant changes that benefit youth athletics in their community.
- The nominee should consistently champion the values of discipline, integrity, courage and respect by using sports as a vehicle to promote educational and personal growth. In addition, their efforts should create community enrichment opportunities for young people to participate in sports they might otherwise have missed, fostering a love of the game and promoting overall well-being.
- The NCJSHOF Executive Committee presents its final nominations to the organization’s Board of Directors.
- Honored individuals are inducted at the annual Induction Ceremony and Banquet
Mensch Award
The Mensch award is presented to an athlete not of the Jewish faith, who epitomizes the ancient Hebrew concept “tikkun olam” to repair the world through generosity and charitable service to the community at large.
